ROOMIE SEZ

I just read an interesting New York Times article: "Newcomers Adjust, Eventually, to New York." Give it a gander and you will understand the following...

I think I've had my "honey, I'm home" moment already. So soon? Oh yes. I believe it came on our drive into the city. I saw the skyline and knew this was it for me.
However, even with that moment there must come adjustments - as with moving any where. The main things I'm trying to get used to at the moment include the constantly changing smells on the streets, the possibility of paying $15 for a sandwich and, of course,...dun, dun, dun...the subway. So far I've been able to find my way around but I'm looking forward to the time when I can hop on a train and, no matter what, know where I'm heading. But that too will come in time and I can't wait!

The only problem I do have with the article is that it's missing two very important things...the newly deemed NYC roomies!...It would have given the article a fabulous edge. Don't you agree? :)

Sigh of relief....

There goes my hero....

Stayed in last night, watching Sex & the City, after walking home from work...from 52nd and Broadway to 80th and York. That's a walk folks. I talked to my dad the whole way, so it went by fast. He was telling me of the awesome supper he was making, while my mouth watered. He was making my favorite okra stew (yes it's yummy, don't knock it til you try it!), brown rice and a new tomato pie that also sounded very awesome. I was jealous.

I am going to try the walk home again and let me tell you why. Eggplant hero with cheese fries.

That was my dinner last night. Delivered and delish.

On a non-food note...I'm picking up my niece in Connecticut this weekend (Sunday) to come hang with me in the City. I'm going to take her to Times Square to all of the fun stuff (Go Build-a-Bear and Toys R' Us!) and possibly Central Park or Bronx zoo. I also plan to take her to Crumbs Bake Shop... a little cupcake shop that has peaked my interest since I walked by it my second day of work. I guess we will end up on a food note. ;)

Pics!

Heather uploaded her pics of our drive to our new digs and our neighborhood. Once I finish my part of the unpacking...we'll have apartment pics as well!

Week #1 Recap

HOT: Running into John Legend at a NY Jets game

NOT: Being stood up by Eli Manning at a NY Jets game

WHO WOULD'VE THOUGHT: Lipstick Jungle would film as I walk to work on Monday morning

It's officially been one week since I moved to the Apple and so much has happened. See below for a brief recap:

  • Drove 14 hours to NYC, resulting in "Crush" on the radio while we crossed into New York and a graffiti throwdown
  • Was stopped multiple times for my Bengals gear...resulting in meeting the owners of a cool bar (East End), country power-hour and staying up until 3:00 am the night before my first day of work
  • Saw a man who had "relieved" himself outside my work building on my first day of work
  • Michael Phelps.
  • Hung at the East End, heard about the death of LeRoi Moore, convinced Schmitty (the Irish bartendar of course) to play a melody of DMB in his honor
  • Was told my hat was cool but would fall apart in two days at the rooftop bar of Sutton Place
  • Worked my first Jets game in which they won
  • Finally saw The Dakota and Lennon memorial in Strawberry Fields while a Beatles tribute band played awesome tunes
  • Saw the prepping for a shoot for TV sitcom, Lipstick Jungle, on the way to work this morning

ROOMIE SEZ

I'm lovin this NYC weather. Yesterday I went to a movie in the park; nuzzled up to the nook of a tree with my blanket and watched August Rush. It was what it was but I liked it none the less. Regardless, you gotta love watching a movie with Central Park scenes while you are actually in Central Park.
